Taliban Dismisses International Concerns Over Women’s Rights in Afghanistan

Kabul: The Ministry of Vice and Virtue has rejected concerns raised by several countries regarding the status of women in Afghanistan, labeling them as "baseless."

Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, the ministry's spokesperson, responded to discussions held at a UN side event on Afghan women, asserting that such statements are meant to "mislead public opinion." He reiterated that the Taliban-led government remains committed to upholding women’s rights in accordance with Islamic law.

"Since coming to power, the Islamic Emirate has ensured that all women receive their rights as prescribed by Sharia law," Khyber stated. "We continue to safeguard these rights and have demonstrated our commitment through our actions."

Despite these assurances, Afghan women’s rights advocates continue to call for access to education and employment.

Multiple Afghan rights advocates emphasized the need for reopening schools for girls, stressing that education is crucial for the country’s future. Similarly, women’s rights activists urged the authorities to allow women to participate in the workforce, similar to their counterparts in other Islamic nations.

Concerns over the situation of women in Afghanistan have been raised by representatives from Canada, the Netherlands, Albania, Australia, and other countries, who have called for concrete measures to guarantee women's rights.
